LIK employs 180 people mainly from the local community in Thika, occasionally outsourcing training to ensure we maintain the best international standards. Some of our staff were involved in the construction of the original tannery in 1985 and have continued to work for us ever since.

We believe that to get the best out of our staff it is important that we invest in them. As such we provide free health check-ups, a kitchen garden which supplies free fresh vegetables and fruits, classes in finance and nutrition as well as in-house professional training allowing them to increase their skills base and salary potential. Our wellness-program is in part actualized with the help of peer educators; senior members of staff who provide colleagues with counsel on psychosocial health and other issues that fall outside the remit of primary care.
